A new project in Desford, and a smaller one than the sites we usually post about. A detached house is getting a full renovation. The existing flat roofed garage is being converted into an office with a pitched roof, and a new garage is being built alongside. The first job on any project like this is to see what you have actually got, and that meant clearing the plot.

After. Drive and frontage cleared, the existing garage now in plain view.

Front and back

The front garden had grown over the house. Once it was out, the drive was broken up and the old planting and paving removed, so the excavator could get to the garage and the ground could be seen properly. The back garden was the same story: mature trees and shrubs taken down to stumps, the old paving lifted and the fence line exposed.

The whole clearance took two days. That is what the right men and the right machines buy you. Five six wheeler loads of green waste, rubble and dig off left the site in that time, and the street was swept behind them.

After. Stumps cut low, fences visible, the whole plot readable.

Why clear first

You cannot price or plan what you cannot see. With the plot bare we can set out the new garage, check levels and drainage for the office conversion, and get the renovation under way without surprises hiding in the borders. It also gives the neighbours a tidy site from day one, which matters on a residential street.

We will post progress as the renovation, the office and the new garage come along. If you have a house that needs bringing back, or a garage to add or convert, get in touch.
